Why We Recommend Riverford

Every brand we recommend on PurifyTheWorld.co.uk must pass five criteria before it appears anywhere on this site. Riverford passes all five comfortably, and has done consistently since we first assessed them.

1. Organic certification
Riverford has been Soil Association certified since 1987 when founder Guy Singh-Watson converted his family farm in Devon to organic production. Every item they sell is certified organic. There are no conventional lines, no blended ranges, no marketing language that implies organic without the certification to back it up.
2. No PFAS
Organic certification prohibits the use of PFAS containing pesticides and synthetic inputs. Riverford's packaging is predominantly cardboard boxes which are reused by their delivery network, significantly reducing PFAS exposure compared to plastic wrapped supermarket produce.
3. No endocrine disruptors
Soil Association organic certification prohibits synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers, the primary sources of endocrine disrupting chemical exposure through food. Riverford grows without them and requires the same from their network of certified partner farms.
4. Minimal plastic
Riverford delivers in reusable cardboard boxes collected on the next delivery. They have committed to removing unnecessary plastic from their supply chain and packaging. Some items such as salad leaves are still packaged in plastic but they publish targets for reduction and track progress publicly.
5. Third party verified claims
Soil Association certification involves annual farm inspections and supply chain audits. B Corp certification independently assesses social and environmental standards across the whole business. Both are independently verified, not self-reported.

What They Offer

Veg boxes
Weekly seasonal vegetable boxes in various sizes from small to extra large. Contents vary by season and what is growing on their farms. You can customise boxes to swap out items you do not want.
Fruit boxes
Seasonal organic fruit boxes, predominantly UK and European grown. Particularly useful for getting Dirty Dozen fruit like strawberries, apples and grapes in certified organic form without the supermarket premium.
Meat and fish
Organic and free range meat from farms that meet Soil Association welfare and farming standards. Organic meat avoids the routine antibiotic use common in conventional farming and typically has a better omega 3 profile from grass feeding.
Store cupboard and dairy
A growing range of organic store cupboard staples, dairy and eggs alongside the fresh boxes. Useful for building a consistently organic kitchen without multiple separate orders.

A weekly Riverford box is one of the most effective single changes you can make to reduce pesticide exposure through food. It removes the weekly decision fatigue of checking labels in supermarket aisles and replaces it with a standing order of genuinely clean produce delivered to your door.
